Captain (retired) George Vivian Barrett Faulkner, (18 March, 1897 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of Reverend F. J. Faulkner, Clerk in Holy Orders passed out of the Training Establishment on the outbreak of war and was briefly placed in the battleship Victorious before being appointed to H.M.S. Neptune on 13 September, 1914. He would serve in her through the Battle of Jutland, where she operated as part of the First Battle Squadron. On 18 June, 1916 he was appointed to the destroyer Ambuscade. He would spend eleven months in this posting.[1]

Later in the war, Faulkner served in the destroyers Tetrarch (very briefly), Ulysses and Sabrina.[2]

Faulkner was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 February, 1918, adjusted from May 1918.[3]

Faulkner was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 February, 1926.[4]

Faulkner was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1932.[5]

Faulkner was placed on the Retired List on account of age at the rank of Captain on 14 May, 1947 and granted the War Service Rank of Captain. In 1948, he proceeded to Capetown, South Africa, to take up residence.[6]
