In June, 1893, he became Commander-in-Chief at Devonport, in succession to the DUKE OF EDINBURGH (now DUKE OF SAXE-COBURG-GOTHA), which important post Sir ALGERNON filled until last April, adding greatly to his naval reputation and the high consideration with which he is regarded both ashore and afloat. Sir ALGERNON was in February last year specially appointed First and Principal Naval Aide-de-Camp to the Queen, in the place of the late Admiral of the Fleet, Sir GEOFFREY HORNBY. He is at present the Senior Admiral on the Active List."
