Commander (retired) Eric William Malcolm King, (4 October, 1889 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

King was born in Punjab, India, the son of Major A. King of the Royal Irish Regiment.[1]

King was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1911. He was appointed to Thames for submarines on 3 March, 1913. At the outset of war, he would be similarly engaged with submarines attached to H.M.S. Dolphin. His health was not good, but the particulars are not explained beyond that he required surgery in October 1914. On 7 December 1914, he was transferred to work with submarines under Maidstone. By early in 1915, however, he was sick again. In April, he was to be given "work of a sedentary character." This turned out to be an assignment with the Trading with the Enemy Committee – a role he fulfilled through the end of the war.[2]

King was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 31 December, 1919. In July 1920, he was made an assistant Naval Attaché to the U.S.A..[3]

King was placed on the Retired List at his own request at the rank of Commander on 4 October, 1932.[4]

World War II

Some service, reverted to the Retired List as medically unfit on 12 January, 1941.[5]
