Torpedoboot SMS V1-V9, 1894

These early torpedo boats (or small destroyers - Germany preferred small designs and called them Torpedoboot) were part of Germany's first generation of this new type.

It appears that V1 has a retractable bow-rudder which the other units lacked, but I've not yet had time to look for other differences between the 2 drawings. Bow rudders later became a common feature on Germany's destroyers of the World War I era.

Notice the cooking stove located right on the deck near the forward stack. You can imagine that cooking in anything but a dead calm was a heroic act of love.
