Original Ship PlansThe plans on this site are a uniquely valuable resource to find on the web: digital color scans of original design drawings for warships. The original plans were scanned at 300 or 400 dots per inch. These original scans have been reduced to 100dpi to reduce the file size, with moderate JPEG compression applied. A notice on each image indicates the resultant dots per inch. If my bandwidth limits are exceeded, I may have to replace these with a lower resolution version. At this point, I have around 170 sheets scanned and available here. They are all German plans, and I believe that they were taken by the Soviets around 1945 and were for some reason never returned to Germany as part of a large repatriation of such materials in 1990 or so. FAQ #1: I have no plans other than those presented here. At present, I have no further plans being offered to me. My hope is that others holding similar resources will contact me, as I am eager to help publicize and share such primary source information as broadly as possible so that their value is not lost in obscurity. My belief is that those who choose to share, rather than hoard such treasures will in the end benefit greatly by finding more and better books and articles available to them, written by others who have been informed by their thoughtful act of open sharing.
CopyrightAll images in this section are protected by copyright, as the marks on them indicate. I freely grant the right to reproduce the images as-is, in electronic form. Print publication requires written permission. My intent in asserting this copyright is to insure that even if the images should be found elsewhere, people seeing them will still have the means to follow up to learn more about the image and to discover the others on this site. As a student of history, nothing disappoints me as much as to see images severed from any explicative context. Preserving the fullest historical value of the information available on this site is a primary motive for presenting it in the first place! Ample proof of this can already be found by seeing the additions to my descriptive text which is provided by outside visitors who discover the pages.
