This might be of interest to list members (although from the predreadnought era)

Why do you think the fuel consumption data isn't available for Japanese warships? Were those never disclosed, so to speak? |

Sounds possible
Although in the 1906 edition of The Naval Annual [which used to be available for downloading from Internet Archive and may still be] there is a two page article "Trials of New Japanese Battleships" covering Kashima and Katori (which were built in England) and there is mention of coal consumption rates. |

Yes, it's only in our day and age that every measure of performance of every piece of military hardware is available on Wikipedia, it would have been a closely guarded secret back then!
Anyways, it's interesting to compare how these estimations from 1906 sometimes correlate with the Japanese strategy in 1941... I guess there aren't so many ways for the same country to attack the same target through the same ocean!
PS: thanks to the administrators for confirming my account on this forum! I'm a military history enthusiast and am trying to expand my knowledge about navies and warships, as I'm mostly knowledgeable about planes and armour. My main interests in the 1890-1920 period are the Austro-Hungarian and Russian navies, but I enjoy reading about any other topic. |
