Very good book has come out recently on the battle cruisers built by John Browns at Clydebank. There is still enough of the Shipyard extant for one to be able to go there and line up the historical photographs with the current relics of the shipyard.
One of the most interesting features of the book is the detailed costings of each ship. They seem amazingly cheap by modern standards, but that is just inflation, what is more astonishing is the difference between the ability of Browns 100 years ago to stick to contract estimate of the price of a ship and the terrible cost over-runs that are taking place on the current Queen Elizabeth class which are being constructed on the Clyde now.

That book is indeed incredible. If only all such shipyards had photographs of the same quality taken and retained for posterity.
