I'm currently modeling the USS Delaware (BB-28) and I'd like to know what references there are for colors. I'm not talking about camouflage paint schemes, just the everyday paint job!
Here's a shot of my progress - still a long way to go!

Superb !!!
About the colours, I just remember that USN use similar colours as RN during WW1.
Before, I am looking in my docs.

All ships were painted in mid grey at the beginning of the Spanish American War. Apart from a few years prior to 1910, they had adopted grey permanently by WW1.

MarkD -- that is fantastic! Can we put up a page for her on the site here?
What are you modeling in?
What is your source?

I'd be happy to see it go up here, but it's still very much a work in progress!
I'm learning as I go using 3DS Max. I have a lot of AutoCAD experience from work, but my 3D experience is limited.
I've actually done some revisions since the above post:
The hull was killing me, but I managed to get something I'm happy with.
I modeled the hull using DELFTShip - it was easier (for me, anyway).
My source comes from the blueprints that are in the National Archives - I went there and took digital photos of the plans. At that point I imported them into AutoCAD (my comfort zone), scaled them, stitched them together, and snapped dimensions from there.

Wow....makes my effort (on the same ship) seem rather simplistic. I am using Anim8tor, and agree the hull form is challenging to draw. The cage mast is downright frustrating! I am thoroughly impressed. There is a museum, near her builder in Newport, that I think has a set of plans for her. The Mariner's Museum. I found it surfing the web, and there site says they will make prints of their plans. The catalog number is MP 00912.
I'm not sure if this will help, but as a kid I remember Testors had a paint called "battleship grey". As I think this is an American company, they may have had access to the U.S. Navy Standards for the colour. If you scanned the colour into your computer, it might be close to what you are after.
Great work

Thanks, Glenn! I'll definitely check out the paint colors.
I've heard of Anim8tor, but I've never used it. I am fortunate enough to have access to 3DS Max through my work and this project (aside from being a passion of mine) has served as a great learning tool.
As for the plans, I have digital copies that I made at the National Archives in College Park, MD - a beautiful set, I might add. It was cool actually touching hand-copied plans that are nearly a century old. The signatures were still clear as they could be!
I've been plugging away on the details:

Mark that is looking better and better. Let me email you on the weekend or soon thereafter to figure out what I need to give it a page on the site. It's great to see an American subject coming along in active development.

As much as I'm not a fan of U.S. BBs, it truly is a pleasure to be able to see one coming alive on screen like this. Lovely work MD.

Thanks, Harley. This is my first ship model and it has been quite the learning experience. As you can probably tell, I'm a bit "detail oriented"!
I'm fascinated by the way people solved engineering problems a century ago without the help of things we take for granted today. Looking through American BBs is almost like watching the design process with different "experiments" being performed on different ships. _________________ Ship's Historian. MarkD this is unreasonably good. DO you mind if I make a page for your model on the site? If there are images other than those posted here that you'd like me to use, please email them to me via tone@(this website's domain)

More progress shots. I've completed the ventillation blower for the aft berth deck, the trunnion mounts for turret V, and part of the steering gear. Also added more decks and bulkheads and refined the frames.
