Yes, very good stuff. Don't call me crazy as I have downloaded every picture (and PDFs) of it. With other stuff, it ate up 8G harddisk space with 20000+ files. :) |

Jef, I found the link to the French plans very interesting. Many thanks. I have always admired the Jauréguiberry, and looking at the plans, especially the very advanced loading mechanisms, shows what a formidable ship she must have been. Anyway, here are a few renditions of the ship.
Designed by Mr Lagane, and built at la Seyne.
Launched 1893. 11,900 tons, Complement 607, Length (waterline) 364 x 72.5 x 29 (max) feet. Guns 2 – 305mm (12”), 2 x 274 mm (10.8”) and 8 x 138 mm (6”) in four twin turrets. 16 x 47mm quick firing guns, 8 x 37mm QF, and 4 x 37mm Gatling guns.
4 x 18” torpedo tubes. Steel armour, 17.75” – 9.75” in belt, 14.5” on turrets.
Designed HP 14,200 IHP. 24 boilers in three boiler rooms
and firing a broadside
and in gray

Very nice!
I've downloaded quite a few of the French plans (for future use). The detail on many of them is fantastic.
I started work on a detailed steam engine model based on the prints from the Cassini (1894):
and from the Amiral Cecille (1888):

Very pleased by what I am seeing here. I will soon try to set up a page for the French BB and hope to see something built around those engine models. Maybe a technical essay?

Am I correct in thinking that dimensions are millimeters? 108,600 mm for a length of Jaureguiberry seems to be reasonable, as using cm gives a length of three super-tankers.
At the same time, what I take to be the table of offsets (ma francais maritime n'est pas tres bien) looks like it's in meters. _________________ John H. Dulaney |
